In household appliances (e.g. air conditioner blowers, air purifiers) and office equipment (e.g. printers, copiers), moving parts such as POM/ABS plastic gears and small DC motor bearings require lubrication to reduce friction and noise. Conventional petroleum-based or general silicone greases may cause stress cracking / crazing on engineering plastics such as Polycarbonate (PC), Polyacetal (POM / Delrin®), and ABS — leading to premature part failure.
Engineers selected Shin-Etsu G-501, a one-component white silicone grease specially formulated for plastic-to-plastic and plastic-to-metal interfaces.
| Appearance / | White Grease |
| Density @23°C | 0.92 g/cm³ |
| Penetration | 306 (1/10 mm) |
| Oil Separation | 2.5 % |
| Volatile Content | 0.10 % |
| Low-temp Torque (Start/Run) | 211 / 103 mN·m |
| Usable Temp. Range | -50°C ~ +150°C |
| Low MW Siloxane Stripped | Yes (reduced plastic attack) |
Plastic-safe: Significantly less likely to cause stress cracking on PC, POM, ABS vs. conventional lubricants.
Low volatility & low bleed: 0.10% volatile content & 2.5% oil separation ensure long-term stability without drying out or contaminating nearby parts.
Noise reduction: Smooth film lowers running noise of meshing plastic gears and blower shaft bearings.
Wide temp. range: Remains pliable at -50°C and resists breakdown up to +150°C — suitable for appliances in variable ambient conditions.
