Shin-Etsu announced G-501 high-performance silicone grease, specifically engineered for plastic parts. This product is designed to address a core challenge faced by engineers when lubricating plastic assemblies: stress cracking induced by lubricants, while delivering superior lubrication and effective noise reduction
In many industries, such as automotive, home appliances, office equipment, and electronics manufacturing, lubrication between plastic components is critical. However, chemical components in many conventional lubricants can adversely react with plastics—particularly engineering plastics like polycarbonate (PC), polyacetal (POM), and ABS—leading to stress cracking. This compromises part strength, causes premature failure, and significantly impacts product reliability and service life.
Shin-Etsu's G-501 grease is specially formulated to significantly reduce the risk of causing stress cracking in plastics. Its "Low Molecular Weight Silicone Stripped" characteristic means the product is free from small molecules that are prone to migration and evaporation, which are often the culprits of plastic degradation. This makes G-501 an ideal choice for lubricating sensitive plastic components.
In addition to its superior protective properties, the G-501 grease offers the following advantages:
The G-501 grease is typically applied in blower bearings, plastic gearboxes, automotive interior parts, appliance hinges, and any mechanisms requiring quiet and smooth movement.
