LOCTITE SF 7649 is a solvent-based, single-component surface activator (primer). It appears as a transparent green liquid with very low viscosity, based on an solvent system containing copper salts and aliphatic amines. It is non-curing by itself and is specifically designed to accelerate the curing of LOCTITE anaerobic adhesives and sealants.

This activator significantly boosts the cure speed of anaerobic products on passive metal surfaces (e.g., stainless steel, plated steel) and under low-temperature conditions (below 15°C). It enables reliable bonding even in large gap applications where anaerobic adhesives would normally cure slowly or fail to cure. After application, the solvent evaporates quickly (30-70 seconds), leaving an active layer that remains effective for up to one month before the adhesive is applied.

A key advantage is that it accelerates curing without significantly reducing the final bond strength. It is certified to ANSI/NSF 61for indirect contact with potable water systems (up to 82°C) and NSF Category P1for non-food contact areas in food processing equipment. As a highly flammable liquid, it requires careful handling and storage between 8°C and 21°C to maintain performance.

LOCTITE SF 7649 is widely used in automotive manufacturing, machinery, and aerospace for activating surfaces prior to applying threadlockers (e.g., LOCTITE 243), retaining compounds, and gasketing products. Typical applications include activating stainless steel or zinc-plated threaded fasteners, hydraulic fittings, and pipe threads in low-temperature assembly environments to ensure rapid fixture and full cure.
