RenGel SW 404 / Ren HY 404: A Filled Epoxy System Engineered for Industrial Wear-Resistant Surfaces

Huntsman Advanced Materials has officially launched the RenGel SW 404 / Ren HY 404 filled epoxy system. Specifically designed as a surface layer for diverse industrial applications, this system offers exceptional wear resistance, outstanding mechanical properties, and ease of application, providing a reliable material solution for industries such as pattern making, model manufacturing, and GRP mold production.

The core advantage of this system lies in its extremely hard surface and superior wear resistance after curing, combined with excellent mechanical strength and chemical stability. The resin is a blue paste and the hardener is a yellow liquid. When mixed at a 100:9 weight ratio, it offers a pot life of 20 to 30 minutes at 25°C, with initial curing in 6 to 8 hours and full cure achieved within 3 to 5 days. At 50°C, the full cure time is reduced to 20 to 24 hours, significantly enhancing production turnaround efficiency.

In terms of key technical specifications, the cured RenGel SW 404 / Ren HY 404 demonstrates high tensile strength (5.00–6.00 kg/mm²), high compressive strength (13.00–15.00 kg/mm²), and excellent flexural strength (12.00–14.00 kg/mm²). With a Shore D hardness of 85–90 and a linear shrinkage rate of only 0.06–0.08%, it ensures dimensional stability and impact resistance under demanding conditions, meeting the rigorous requirements of high-precision industrial molds and models.

This product is widely used in pattern making (Gabaritos), standard models, copying machine and casting models, as well as GRP/FRP mold manufacturing. In GRP mold applications, its wear-resistant surface significantly extends mold service life and reduces maintenance frequency caused by surface wear. In casting and model making, its low shrinkage and high hardness ensure replication accuracy, making it suitable for precision manufacturing scenarios with stringent surface quality requirements.

For application, RenGel SW 404 / Ren HY 404 supports brush coating and can be evenly applied using a clean, dry, short-bristle brush. Thin coats are recommended to avoid micro-bubbles. The second coat can be applied once the first reaches the gel state, taking care to prevent material buildup in corners. All mixing and application tools must be kept dry, as temperatures below 18°C may affect the normal reaction. Application is recommended in a well-ventilated, clean area.

For storage and safety, the product must be kept in its original sealed packaging, stored at room temperature in a well-ventilated, cool, and shaded area, and sealed with dry nitrogen to prevent moisture absorption and contamination. The work environment should be well-ventilated, and the mixed material should be used immediately. With its superior wear resistance and application convenience, this product provides a cost-effective technical solution for industrial surface protection and precision molding, catering to manufacturing and mold industries with stringent surface performance requirements.
