Against the backdrop of tightening global environmental‑protection regulations and growing reliability requirements for industrial threaded connections, DuPont Specialty Lubricants presents MOLYKOTE® P‑74 metal‑free, high‑load‑carrying assembly paste. It delivers a new lubrication solution balancing safety, durability and environmental compliance for threaded assemblies, press‑fit joints and sliding contact surfaces across industriesDuPont.

Conventional anti‑seize pastes filled with copper, nickel or other metallic powders perform in many high‑temperature and vibration‑prone applications, yet carry inherent limitations. Under high‑temperature conditions, metallic fillers may diffuse into fastener grain boundaries and trigger brittleness risks for alloy bolts. Metal residues also create environmental burdens during disposal. Some legacy anti‑seize formulations contain PTFE or PFAS substances, making compliance with evolving global chemical regulations challenging. Besides, many ordinary anti‑seize agents show variable friction coefficients, leading to large deviation between applied tightening torque and real bolt pre‑load. This further contributes to bolt fracture, vibration‑induced loosening and sealing leakage, resulting in costly unplanned equipment downtime.

MOLYKOTE® P‑74 features a non‑metallic formulation with no intentional addition of PTFE or PFAS. It consists of solid lubricants, synthetic oil, thickener and adhesion promoter. The formula eliminates risks of metal‑diffusion brittleness and PFAS regulatory concerns, supporting compliance upgrades for automotive, mining, energy and general machinery sectors.

The paste delivers high load‑carrying capacity with four‑ball weld load reaching 4 800 N. It maintains low and consistent friction coefficient comparable to oiled bolts. Stable tribological behaviour persists even through repeated tightening‑loosening cycles. Design engineers can reliably calculate tightening torque to achieve uniform clamping force for flanges, valves and equipment housings. It mitigates risks of bolt fracture and vibration‑caused loosening and improves overall assembly safety.

For thermal adaptability, the paste works continuously from ‑40 ℃ to 200 ℃. Once base oil evaporates under heat, solid‑lubricant components form a dry separating film capable of short‑term peak temperature up to 1 500 ℃, coping with transient thermal shocks found on exhaust bolts and high‑temperature flanges. Good corrosion‑resistance performance is validated by salt‑spray test and SKF‑Emcor corrosion test, protecting mating metal threads against moisture and salt‑atmosphere attack.

MOLYKOTE® P‑74 covers wide‑ranging assembly points: bolted joints, plain sliding bearings, linear sliding guides, splined shafts, press‑fit joints, exhaust bolts, spark‑plug threads, flange sealing faces, door hinges and brake mechanisms. Multiple end‑users have completed field validations on demanding applications such as SAG‑mill liner bolts and power‑unit exhaust fasteners. Compared with traditional metal‑filled anti‑seize compounds, P‑74 narrows bolt pre‑load dispersion, reduces thread galling‑seizure, facilitates maintenance disassembly and cuts total operation‑maintenance costsDuPont.

“Many equipment failures stem not from insufficient bolt strength, but inappropriate selection of assembly lubricant,” commented technical specialists from DuPont Specialty Lubricants. “MOLYKOTE® P‑74 integrates stable and calculable friction, high load‑bearing performance, corrosion protection, metal‑free and PFAS‑free advantages within one paste product. It helps OEMs and maintenance teams improve long‑term threaded‑joint reliability and reduce downtime losses while meeting environmental‑compliance requirements.”
