Sika Launches Sikaflex-211 CN 1-Component Polyurethane Sealant

Sikaflex-211 CN is a moisture-curing 1-component polyurethane sealant that forms a durable elastomer upon reaction with atmospheric humidity. Key technical data include: Shore A hardness of approximately 50, tensile strength of approximately 1.3 MPa, elongation at break of approximately 400%, and tear resistance of approximately 6 N/mm. The product maintains stable performance across a service temperature range of -40°C to 90°C, with a skin time of approximately 45 minutes at 23°C / 50% relative humidity.

Sikaflex-211 CN is suitable for permanent elastic sealing applications requiring high adhesive strength. Suitable substrates include timber, metals, metal primers and paint coatings (2-component systems), ceramic materials, and plastics. In the transportation sector, the product is widely used for seam and joint sealing in automobiles, railway passenger cars, and refrigerated containers; in industrial manufacturing, it is applied to pipeline joint sealing, shipbuilding, and construction waterproofing. It is particularly suitable for dust-proof sealing of automotive front/rear panels, engine compartments, floors, doors, wheel arches, and underbody areas.

Surface Preparation: Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, and dust. Surface treatment depends on the specific nature of the substrates; it is recommended to consult the Sika Pre-Treatment Chart and perform verification tests on actual substrates.

Application Temperature: Sikaflex-211 CN can be applied between 5°C and 40°C, with the optimum temperature for substrate and sealant ranging from 15°C to 25°C.

Overpainting: The product can be painted after skin formation; 1C-PUR and 2C-acrylic based paints are generally suitable. Preliminary trials under production conditions are recommended to ensure compatibility.
