Automotive under-hood electronics, such as Engine Control Units (ECUs) and transmission controllers, operate in extremely harsh environments characterized by high humidity, salt spray, thermal shock (-40°C to +150°C), and constant vibration. Without robust protection, PCBs are susceptible to corrosion, dendrite growth, and short circuits, leading to critical system failures.
DOWSIL™ CC-2588 is a one-part, solvent-borne silicone resin conformal coating designed for demanding applications. it offers a unique combination of properties:
In a typical high-volume ECU manufacturing scenario, the PCB assemblies are first cleaned and dried. DOWSIL™ CC-2588 is applied using selective spray equipment to target specific areas while masking connectors. Thanks to its medium viscosity (930 cP), the material flows smoothly without excessive dripping. After a brief room temperature flash-off, the boards are ready for immediate packing or functional testing within an hour, as the coating cures fully via ambient moisture over 24-72 hours.
DOWSIL™ CC-2588 provides an optimal balance of mechanical protection, electrical insulation, and process efficiency. It is an ideal solution for automotive electronics, industrial controls, and appliance PCBs requiring long-term reliability in harsh environments.
