Molykote D-6024 is a heat-curing dry-film lubricant designed for metal components operating under extreme conditions. It combines a very low coefficient of friction with excellent resistance to fuel, oil, and high temperatures, making it an ideal solution for reducing wear on critical components such as engine pistons and cylinder walls during break-in, cold start, and ongoing operation.
In automotive engine manufacturing and operation, friction between pistons and cylinder walls is a major cause of efficiency loss and premature component failure. This is particularly critical during cold starts when lubricating oil has not yet fully reached the friction surfaces, and during the engine break-in period where direct metal-to-metal contact of surface asperities can lead to severe wear. Traditional liquid lubricants may break down at high temperatures, fail to provide lasting protection, and carry the risk of dripping.
Molykote D-6024 addresses this challenge by forming a robust dry-film lubricating layer. Once cured, the coating firmly adheres to the metal surface, effectively separating friction pairs and significantly reducing the coefficient of friction (as low as 0.10 in tests) even under high loads and slow to medium speeds. Its wide service temperature range (-70°C to +310°C) ensures protection across all operating conditions, from extreme cold starts to high-temperature full-load operation.
In the manufacturing process, component surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned and degreased. Phosphating or sandblasting is recommended to significantly enhance coating adhesion and service life. D-6024 can be applied by screen printing (recommended dry-film thickness of 15-20μm), spraying, or brushing, followed by a standard curing process of 10 minutes flash-off at 80°C and 60 minutes curing at 200°C to form a durable lubricating film.
Molykote D-6024 Anti-Friction Coating is a proven solution that offers durable and reliable protection for engine manufacturers and industrial maintenance teams facing severe friction and wear challenges. Its ease of application combined with exceptional performance makes it a key material for enhancing product durability and reliability.
