Henkel Loctiter 648 High Temp Oil-Tolerant Anaerobic Retaining Compound for Cylindrical Fitting of Gears Sprockets & Motor Rotors
Loctiter 648™ is a one-component, low-viscosity, high-strength anaerobic-curing retaining compound based on urethane methacrylate. It appears as a green fluorescent liquid uncured and cures in the absence of air between close-fitting metal surfaces.

Loctiter 648™ is designed for bonding cylindrical fitting parts such as shafts with gears, bearings or bushings, filling gaps up to ~0.15 mm and preventing loosening or leakage from shock and vibration. It cures on both active metals (mild steel) and passive substrates (stainless steel, plated surfaces), offers high-temperature resistance and tolerates minor oil contamination (cutting/lubrication fluids). It fluoresces under UV light for quality control inspection.
This is a high-strength grade; compressive shear strength on steel pins/collars ≥25 N/mm² after 24 h cure. Service temperature range is -55 °C to +180 °C. Maximum gap fill: 0.15 mm. Positive fluorescence under UV light enables in-line QC. It is a non-corrosive anaerobic system that tolerates minor surface oil contamination, reducing pre-cleaning needs—fixture time ~3–10 min on steel, full cure in 24 h.
Typical uses: securing gears & sprockets onto gearbox shafts, fixing rotors to electric motor shafts; retaining bearings, bushings or sleeves into housings; coupling/pulley retention; restoring worn interference fits. Commonly specified in automotive powertrain, industrial gearboxes, electric motors and pumps requiring high-strength, vibration-resistant cylindrical bonding.
