The Dow Chemical Company has launched DOWSIL™ EA-9189 H White RTV Adhesive, a single-component, room-temperature vulcanizing adhesive formulated for electronic module assembly. Requiring no mixing, the product features fast tack-free time, UL 94V-0 flammability classification, and excellent thermal conductivity, designed to help manufacturers improve production efficiency and enhance component reliability.
DOWSIL™ EA-9189 H is a one-part RTV adhesive based on a polydimethylsiloxane formulation with an alkoxy cure system. The product cures at room temperature through reaction with moisture in the air, eliminating the need for curing ovens and associated energy and capital costs. It cures effectively in environments with 30% to 80% relative humidity and achieves over 90% of its final physical properties within 24 to 72 hours.
The product features strictly controlled low molecular weight siloxane content and cures to a white color. Its neutral alcohol cure chemistry is non-corrosive to metals such as copper. The surface becomes tack-free in just 2 minutes at 25°C, with a working time of several minutes to one hour, suitable for both manual and automated dispensing processes.
EA-9189 H achieves tack-free status in just 2 minutes at 25°C, significantly shortening production cycles. The adhesive and components can be handled in approximately 10 to 120 minutes (depending on the adhesive selected and the amount applied), enabling faster manufacturing throughput. For applications requiring accelerated cure, mild heat below 60°C (140°F) may be used to speed up the curing process.
The product is UL 94V-0 flammability classified, providing outstanding fire safety performance after curing, making it suitable for electronic assembly applications with stringent flame retardancy requirements.
With a thermal conductivity of 0.88 W/m·K, EA-9189 H effectively conducts and dissipates heat generated by electronic components, helping maintain devices within safe operating temperatures and extending the service life of electronic products. In the context of increasingly miniaturized and integrated electronic devices, effective thermal management has become one of the key factors in ensuring device reliability.
After curing, the adhesive exhibits a volume resistivity of up to 3.3×10¹⁵ Ω·cm, a dielectric constant of 2.59 (at 100K Hz), a dielectric strength of 700 V/mil (28 kV/mm), and a dissipation factor of only 0.009 (at 100K Hz), providing reliable electrical insulation protection for electronic components.
The product delivers excellent adhesion on a variety of substrates without requiring a primer. In unprimed lap shear tests, it achieves adhesion strengths of 327 psi (2.2 MPa) to aluminum, 343 psi (2.3 MPa) to copper, 349 psi (2.4 MPa) to FR4, and 187 psi (1.2 MPa) to PC. Dow silicone adhesives are specially formulated to provide unprimed adhesion to many reactive metals, ceramics, and glass, as well as to selected laminates, resins, and plastics.
The cured silicone adhesive remains operational over a temperature range of -45°C to 200°C (-49°F to 392°F) for extended periods, providing excellent thermal stability and cold resistance for electronic assemblies. For low-temperature performance, thermal cycling to conditions such as -55°C (-67°F) may be possible, though performance should be verified for specific parts or assemblies.
DOWSIL™ EA-9189 H is primarily designed for electronic module assembly bonding. Leveraging its comprehensive performance advantages, the product is suitable for the following application scenarios:
As electronic devices become increasingly complex and miniaturized, and emerging fields such as 5G communications and electric vehicles continue to develop rapidly, the demand for thermally conductive adhesives continues to grow. According to market research reports, the global thermally conductive silicone adhesives market is expected to grow from USD 177 million in 2025 to USD 213 million in 2031, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.2%. Against this trend, RTV adhesives featuring convenient single-component use, excellent thermal conductivity, and reliable insulation are becoming important material choices in the electronic manufacturing industry. DOWSIL™ EA-9189 H, with its comprehensive advantages of single-component convenience, fast curing, excellent thermal conductivity, and flame retardancy, provides the electronic manufacturing industry with a reliable and efficient bonding solution. The product supports both manual and automated dispensing, can seamlessly integrate into existing production lines, and helps manufacturers improve production efficiency while ensuring product quality.
