In modern industrial manufacturing, firmly bonding various rubber elastomers (such as NR, NBR, EPDM, etc.) to metal frameworks via molding and vulcanization is a core process for producing dampers, seals, and composite parts. To meet the higher demands in bond strength, process adaptability, and environmental performance, LORD Corporation has introduced Chemlok 6150GB, a one-coat heat cure adhesive that provides a proven solution for reliable bonding of multiple elastomers to metal, plastic, and fabric substrates.
Chemlok 6150GB is a black liquid one-coat adhesive with a xylene-based solvent system, composed of polymers, organic compounds, and mineral fillers dissolved or dispersed in an organic solvent. It is designed for heat cure bonding of unvulcanized elastomers to various metals (carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, copper alloys, etc.), as well as some plastics and fabric substrates. Compatible elastomers include Natural Rubber (NR), Polyisoprene (IR), Styrene-butadiene (SBR), Polybutadiene (BR), Polychloroprene (CR), Nitrile (NBR), Butyl (IIR), EPDM, Polyepichlorohydrin (ECO), among others. The product contains no chlorinated solvents or lead salts, complies with ROHS and REACH environmental regulations, and typically achieves "Rubber Failure" in applications, ensuring extremely high bond reliability.
Substrate surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned first: remove grease by solvent degreasing or alkaline cleaning, remove rust and oxide layers by chemical treatments (phosphating for steel, conversion coating for aluminum) or mechanical methods (grit blasting with steel grit for ferrous metals, aluminum oxide for non-ferrous metals, grinding, wire brushing, etc.). Stir the adhesive fully before application to ensure uniform composition, dilute with suitable solvent if needed per process requirements. After application, air dry for 20-40 minutes at room temperature, or use low-temperature (max 65°C) high-airflow drying to shorten time. Ideally, coated parts should be molded the same day; if storage is necessary, avoid contamination and high humidity, with a maximum shelf life of 1 year (unopened original package, stored at 21-27°C in a ventilated area). The vulcanization process should follow the parameters recommended by the corresponding elastomer manufacturer, with curing occurring simultaneously with rubber vulcanization.
With its wide compatibility, stable bonding quality, and eco-friendly features, LORD Chemlok 6150GB continues to provide efficient and reliable elastomer-to-metal heat cure bonding solutions for manufacturing industries worldwide.
