A specialty vehicle OEM required structural bonding of fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP/GRP) side and roof panels to aluminum and carbon steel framing on box truck bodies. Traditional riveting demanded drilled holes in the composite, creating stress concentrations and potential fiber tear, with risks of fastener loosening under road vibration. The manufacturer adopted Plexus MA420, a two-part toughened methacrylate (MMA) adhesive, to bond dissimilar FRP-to-metal substrates with minimal surface preparation and high impact/fatigue resistance, replacing selected mechanical fasteners.
Compatible with FRP/GRP composites, gel coat, ABS, rigid PVC, acrylics, polyester, DCPD; aluminum, cold-rolled & stainless steel, e-coated/powder-coated metals .
